Dear Journal,

I have no more words to say. God has certainly given us retribution.

NOT ONLY has the National Constituent Assembly abolished the dues that peasants need to pay to the lord, but the lands of nobles, has also been stripped from our ownership. We were subjected to the same taxation as those hogs, and lost our prestige privileges (the hunt, seigneurial justice, funeral honors). But, thank the lord for being able to retain our titles as nobles.

After my family fled France, but after the war ended, we wen’t back to demand restitution of our property. After regaining our manor, those dogs caused a scene. How dare those rascals break into my manor and destroy the old legal papers that bound them to pay feudal dues!!!! Those stupid, uneducated dogs don’t know what they are dealing with.

Quite long ago, I witnessed a group of wretches outside my manor, whooping about how the National Constituent Assembly abolished their taxes. Out of these dogs, Jacqueline-Adelle Cartier, one of my finest field workers, was the most joyous out of them all. She cheered about how the lord finally heard their voices and gave them a great gift. Ha! A Gift? What do they think they are, nobles? They are nothing. Their stupidity and lack of culture proves that they do not deserve ANY welfare in life.

How dare the third estate take away our status and power!! Do these devils believe that France can go one without social class, or even, without TAXES?! Taxes are what keeps this country standing, but abolishing the tax system will ruin all. Giving the Third Estates both financial and social relief, as well as a chance to have more power over the economic decisions of my country is the last thing I will allow to happen while my feet are still on the French soil.

France has finally gained it's new emperor. Napoleon. I have to say, he does a efficient job on military exploits. Before his glory as the emperor, his fame all began on 1795, when the young officer was appointed by a government official to defend the delegates. He greeted the thousands of royalists with a cannonade. In a blink of an eye, the attackers fled in panic and confusion. From then on, Napoleon Bonaparte had become the hero of the hour and everyone in Paris recognized his name. Napoleon also succeeded in bringing order after the revolution. Thanks to him, sound financial management and better control of the economy grew in place. I'll have to keep an eye on this one.

Sincerly,

Antoine de Bosc

What has the world come to? If you still have a heart for us, god, save us from this retread clutches of the devil.

King Louis XVI was murdered by the people yesterday. I feel the world is crumbling down. A country without a king! All is lost.

I must admit I had my doubts about King Louis and I still blame him for this mess. His grandfather was an able man. Its a tragedy he couldn’t have a grandson as able as he once was. Still, it is blasphemous to murder the king. There would be God’s righteous fury for them. I feel Madame Antoinette has little time for herself also. Perhaps, death is expected for a woman of her birth. Now the question is, how Austria would act. It is a shame that I should hope for a successful invasion; in fact, I fear for their success as well. The things they would ask for in case of their successful intervention. At the same time, their failure is beyond imagination. I pray for their immediate action.

The king’s death really pushed me to make a decision. Though it still pains me to see the proof’s of my glorious ancestry disappear into time, or worse, into the hands of the filthy commoners, I must save what I have left and really consider things in perspective. Now that the well-being of myself and my family is at stake, I have no choice but to give up the bulk of my prized possessions and flee.

Another deciding factor was the Lacroixs. Harvey dropped by with his family earlier today. He discussed their route of escape and asked me to safeguard their heirlooms. When she handed me her pendant, poor Viviane was shaking. There were tears welling up in her eyes when she asked Beatrix if she could take care of Evangeline, her cat. I felt sorrow and anger rising inside me. This world accursed by low bloods is stripping a young, vibrant girl, like Viviane, of her happy youth. Instead of a life filled with love and expectations, Viviane has to give up her beloved possessions and spend her youth in a foreign world without a decent society.

However, she is luckier than those who lost their lives on the Guillotine. I can’t let my dear Marie end her beautiful life in a premature death. I shall contact M. Plamondon and arrange a way out for my family. Anywhere must be better than here.

Sincerly,

Dear Journal,

King Louis XIV. I still can’t believe that little kid with the money from his grandfather spends it all on his war game in the new world and a love game with his Austrian wife. How dare he tells me to support his extravagant hunting games and masquerades! If he just sells the products of his lunatic obsession with locks and keys and make the queen give up hats and wigs, he can support the entire war and make everyone’s life easier. Now the nobility has to make up for his immature use of expenses.

On June 30th, the Vigees dropped in for dinner. M. Vigee was also worried about the impossible events that are taking place in our country. Together, we talked about the ignorant Third Estates and how their immature actions led to chaos. It angered me to see my wife and Madame Vigee obsess over the new hat worn by Marie Antoinette during the morning mass. Their blindness furies me.

Things got even worse after the the Estates- General Assembly. I thought that this would be the solution to stop the king from imposing tax on the Second Estate, but the third estate rose up against us and tried to equalize the Second and Third Estate. The Third Estate wanted the Estates to meet as one body and vote per deputy ("voting by heads" rather than "by orders"). How dare those crude stray dogs try to bark together! Calling themselves the “National Assembly?” It is preposterous for them to even think that their barking would change anything. Talking about barking, Artur Durandal, the NOBODY, just seems as if he can't shut up. Why can't he just do what he's told to do, quietly? A construction worker is his job, and he should keep it his ONLY job. Trying to rebel and equalize the class between me and him is not going to happen. His lack of class, culture, and education proves that I, the Second Estate, will always have more power than him, the Third Estate and they should acknowledge this fact.

Not only do I have one problem, but now I have two, dealing with the Third Estate and the kings. The church is not even making an effort to tame the Third Estate. They take all the money and act all wholly but they can’t even control the imbeciles.

Tension kept rising even during the Tennis Court Oath. The uneducated broke down the door of the indoor tennis court and pledged to stay until we drew up a new constitution. They are violent and their violence is an evidence of their lack of culture. Those filthy rags think that breaking down a door can even begin to narrow the gap between them and me.

The other day, I was introduced to an American minister, Thomas Jefferson. We discussed his first-hand observation on the storm that went on down in Bastille in search of gunpowder and arms. He described the mob as violent and intense. Jefferson observed how the attempts by deputies to organize a cease-fire were ignored by the attackers and how the furious attackers hacked the prison commander and several guards to death.

I must admit that I feel a little threatened; I don’t even know if they have enough senses in them to understand logic. I fear that their violence would result in a complete pandemonium.

Sincerly,

Antoine de Bosc
